We propose a different definition of marriage than is commonly accepted.
We recognize not only conventional marriage, but also group marriage, same-gender
marriage, term marriages, and secondary marriages. We realize that these
are legally recognized in very few if any jurisdictions, but we shall endeavor
to recognize them within our own community.
Note that in our teaching, hand sex, oral sex, and other types of
non-vaginal sex are not considered violations of marital fidelity vows, nor
is sex in ceremonial settings. These are always permissible.
Term marriage is an
arrangement set to expire a date determined before the wedding. They sign
a pre-nuptial agreement specifying not only distribution of property at the
end of the marriage but also the date of the divorce.
Secondary marriage
is sort of an openly sanctioned affair, an agreement between spouses to permit
a phsyical relationship with an outside party under specifications agreed
to by all concerned. In other words, if a married woman wishes a sexual
relationship with a man other than her husband, she and the husband and the
other man may conduct a ceremony in which the husband officially gives his
blessing and consent. The three may negotiate constraints on the secondary
relationship, such as for example an expiration date or a maximum frequency
of intercourse or "as long as you don't do it in our bed" or something like
that. The purpose of this is to bring such relationships out of the closet
and into the open. Millions of people in many countries already have such
relationships but lie about them. We believe in being honest and asking formal
permission of those who might be hurt by the lying.
Group
marriage is a full marriage between three or
more people. There may of course be term group marriages and secondary group
marriages.
